Bayer Leverkusen director of sport, Rudi Voller, has admitted Chelsea are interested in signing attacking midfielder Andre Schurrle, according to ITV sport.

The 22-year-old has been in superb form in Germany over the past 2 seasons and the report claims Leverkusen turned down a £21m bid from the European champions last summer.

However, it seems the Bundesliga outfit may be ready to consider fresh offers at the end of the season with sporting director Voller admitting there is interest from the Londoners. When asked about the reported interest from Chelsea in Schurrle after Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Wolfsburg, Voller is quoted as saying by ITV:

“It’s totally normal for there to be enquiries for such a great player, even from London, and that’s part of the business,”

ITV claim Leverkusen are interested in Chelsea winger Kevin De Bruyne, who is impressing on loan at Werder Bremen this season, scoring 6 goals and provided 7 assists during his 27 appearances so far.

The report suggests Leverkusen may look to seal a swap deal that would see De Bruyne remain in Germany with Schurrle making the switch to Stamford Bridge in the opposite direction.

Schurrle is a versatile attacker who can play anywhere across the front line as well in an attacking midfield role, so would provide the Blues with a variety of options if he was to make the move to west London this summer.
