United ‘Guarantee’ Falcao’s Signature After Paying Small Up-Front Fee?

Manchester United have joined the chase to sign Radamel Falcao and may already have ‘guaranteed’ his signature by paying Atletico Madrid a small up front fee.

Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, have Man Utd put down a deposit for Radamel Falcao?

Colombia Radamel Falcao

Manchester United have joined the chase to sign Radamel Falcao and may already have ‘guaranteed’ his signature by paying Atletico Madrid a small deposit, according to talkSPORT.

The Colombian hitman has become one of the most highly-rated strikers in the world since joining Atletico from Porto in 2011, scoring 64 goals in 83 games so far to help the Spaniards lift the Europa League last season and push Real Madrid for 2nd spot in La Liga this campaign.

talkSPORT claim Chelsea have been strongly linked with a move for the 27-year-old in recent months but it seems run-away league leaders Manchester United are now firm favourites to bring Falcao to the Premier League this summer.

A report from Marca suggests that Old Trafford is now Falcao’s most likely destination at the end of the season with sources from inside both Atletico and United telling the Spanish publication that the champions-elect have already ‘guaranteed’ the strikers signature after putting down a small deposit ahead of a summer move – much like they did when they signed goalkeeper David De Gea from Atletico in 2011.

The report claims Sir Alex Ferguson won’t match Falcao’s €60m buy-out clause but talkSPORT suggest United will pay in the region of £43m to bring the deadly striker to Old Trafford this summer.

If these reports are accurate, it would be a stunning coup for United to beat Chelsea and land arguably the most sought-after striker in Europe. How the Colombian would fit in to an attack that already boasts Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney is one for Sir Alex to worry about, but no doubt it would be a mouth-watering prospect for United fans.
