Transfer News: Man City Rival Arsenal For €40m Gotze

Manchester City and Arsenal will fight it out for the signing of Borussia Dortmund’s €40m-rated attacking midfielder Mario Gotze this summer, according to reports

Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Man City rival Arsenal for Mario Gotze.

Mario Gotze

Manchester City and Arsenal will fight it out for the signing of Borussia Dortmund attacker Mario Gotze this summer, according to German outlet Kicker.

The 20-year-old has become one of Europe’s most sought-after players thanks to a string of impressive displays for Dortmund over the past 2 years. He helped guide the German giants to successive Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012 while the attacking midfielder has also played a key role in Dortmund reaching the semi-final’s of the Champions League this season.

It seems his impressive form hasn’t gone unnoticed here in the UK with Kicker claiming defending Premier League champions Manchester City have joined Arsenal in showing a strong interest in the German international with the duo understood to be considering activating his €40m buy-out clause this summer.

The report suggests that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has held a long-standing interest in Gotze and is finally ready to make his move this summer but the Londoners will face stiff competition from Manchester City with their sporting director Txiki Begiristain believed to have already met with one of Gotze’s representatives, Volker Struth, last month to discuss a potential move to the Etihad Stadium.

If it’s a straight fight between Arsenal and City you’d have to think the Manchester club would have the edge considering their financial power, but if a player like Gotze is on the market I’d expect there to be a number of clubs interested.

But would Gotze want to leave Dortmund this summer? He’s already playing for one of the best sides in Europe who’re in the last four of the Champions League and play some of the best football around. He’s still only 20 so has plenty of time to play in other league’s, so personally i’d be hugely surprised if he was looking to move on at the end of the season.
