Arsenal Player Ratings From The 3-1 Win Over Norwich By ‘Lloyd The Gooner’

By on April 14, 2013

Arsenal left it late to beat Norwich City 3-1 at the Emirates on Saturday afternoon. Here writer Lloyd the Gooner gives his player ratings for the Arsenal players.

Aaron Ramsey

This was a lucky win! Very lucky. That said the boys made most of it. Patience in the stands too. There was some minor agitation in the crowd sat near me but the vast majority realised that the result was EVERYTHING and that was only going to happen if they were behind the team.

Fabianski 7. Quiet afternoon but one late save kept us in the lead. When it mattered he was up to it.

Sagna 6. Decent game from Bac mainly showing well going forward but battled hard as well.

Koscielny 6. Holt played like an overweight thug at closing time and Kossy had a bit to do in the game. And apart from the goal he did what was asked BUT the goal… we are useless at defending set pieces aren’t we?

Vermaelen 6. Like his partner did most of what asked of him. I suppose neither can help being on the short side for centre backs but why not beef up the centre of midfield to compensate? Where have you gone Pat Vieira a club turns its lonely eyes to you?! (With apologies to Simon and Garfunkel)

Gibbs 6. Some duff crosses but he gave his all. We have two top players in a key position. It is going to be interesting to see how Arsene keeps both happy.

Arteta 6. A little under par. Even his passing was off. But as cool as you like with the pen and one of those who never gives less than his best in terms of effort.

Ramsey 8. In the first half was our best performer by a distance. We saw glimpses of the player we actually signed. There were good passes in abundance and massive effort form the Welshman. Kept going well and drove us on late on from right back.

Cazorla 6. Passed poorly, shot wastefully and generally under-performed but didn’t hide on an off day like some do.

Wilshere 5. Not his day. His ‘burst’ just wasn’t there. Perhaps a worry since his lay-off was relatively short but hopefully Everton will suffer the backlash in mid-week.

Gervinho 4. Really poor. His decision making was at least consistent…he got every single one wrong! A waste of a shirt. Arsene please take note. If somebody is prepared to pay us…take the money. Subbed very early (for Wenger) I hope that means the boss has finally run out of patience.

Giroud 7. At times he makes you want to run onto the pitch and trap the ball for him and at others he looks like a real force. When our tails were up he looked a player, worryingly in a lacklustre first half when he was absent without leave.

Subs:

Walcott. Lively showing, but not a winger…as ever. Put the effort in and helped create the pressure under which Norwich crumbled.

Podolski. One thumping effort hit the bar and scored with another. He also mis-controlled a couple, one in front of goal. That is typical of what we have seen over the season as a whole, the proverbial curate’s egg, good in parts.

Oxlade Chamberlain. A really lively contribution from him. Attacked from midfield which we all know is where he will eventually play.

The Boss. Please deal with the mediocrity at our club. But even more importantly sign REAL class that can make a difference.

for me the 25 man squad has 12 places up for grabs, next season. i have only included players born 1991 or before the 13 definites should be:
szczesney, koscielny, mertesacker, vermaelen, monreal, gibbs, arteta, ramsey, coquelin, cazorla, walcott, podolski, giroud

then i have 6 as undecided, due to contract situation, form or injury, they are:
fabianski, mannone, sagna, diaby, rosicky, gervinho

i would definitely sell/release the following 12 players:
shea, squillaci, djourou, santos, eastmond, henderson, denilson, arshavin, park, bendtner, chamakh, watt

for players born 1992 or after, i would keep the following 35:Wilshere, Jenkinson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Frimpong, Campbell, Miyaichi, Martinez, Miquel, Meade, Eisfeld, Afobe, Yennaris, Monteiro, Charles-Cook, Aneke, Ansah, Toral, Iliev, Bellerin, Hayden, Olsson, Gnabry, Jebb, Lipman, Akpom, Siemann, Ormonde-Ottewill, Dawkins, Mugabo, Kamara, Vickers, Uade, Dallison, Iwobi

i am undecided about these 6:
Boateng, Hajrovic, Ebicilio, Wynter, Wellington, Jeffrey,

but would definitely sell/release these 6:
Bihmoutine, Neita, Rees, Fagan, Galindo, Roberts

so for me thats 18 definite departures. with a squad of 60 players (including 12 that i am undecided on) to be joined by the new arrivals, of which 8 new scholars are already known: Huddart, Brown, Zelalem, Maitland-Niles, Moore, Smith, O’Connor, Wright

Let’s try and keep our regulars, the 16-17 who either starts or make the bench. The only way we can get better is to replace the bottom of our squad that are 21+; Squilacci, Eastmond, Chamakh, Denilson, Bendtner, Santos, etc

Nice spirit from the entire squad! Arsene should sign Jovetic, Gortze and capou then promote some young players.

I actually thought the negativity from the commentators was pathetically negative, how they went on and on about every little thing from carzola not being utilized and how our midfield ought to have been pressing.I was so disgusted at how bias media generally is against arsenal its sad. One thing is for sure, man u won’t be getting that guard of honour at emirates I gurantee u. Fergie is going on about perfect 7win run he is so dillusional.how they went on about they were going to get the treble, then downgraded to double and now guard of honour at the grove purrrlease

If Rosicky cant play four consecutive games without injury,he should be kept for tough matches like Everton and Manu.he really inject pace in the game.we need to keep him fit.

Don´t really disagree much with the ratings. Maybe Gervinho was a bit too low, are you ignorant? I could think of a dozen more players we should ship out before him. Don’t recall you complaining about him the past 4-5 GWs. He definitely had a case of the selfish on two clear occasions. But he has 3x the work rate of a Walcott, and he pressures far up the pitch and back in our own half. Get a grip…

    Also…

Lets not forget the dynamics that players are playing within. How you could give Cazorla a 6 along with the other sixes is bordering on ridiculous. He had 33 passes received in the final third…While Jack Wilshere started the match, his withdrawal meant that Cazorla adopted a familiar wandering role in the attacking third, prompting and supporting Olivier Giroud up front. With 32 passes completed in the final third, no other midfielder in the Gameweek had more success in this area. Crucially, however, Cazorla mustered just two efforts on goal – both from outside the box. Spacing and and independent off-the-ball runs were horrible as a whole. Our goal as a team and more importantly for a player like Arteta and Ramsey is to get playmakers like Gervinho, Walcott, Cazorla and Giroud as many touches as possible.
