Senegal Defender Claims Arsenal Interest & Admits He’d Jump At Emirates Move

Cheikhou Kouyate claims Arsenal have made enquiries over his services in recent months and admitted he would jump at the chance of moving to the Emirates Stadium

Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Cheikhou Kouyate is keen on a move to Arsenal.

Cheikhou-Kouyate

Senegal international Cheikhou Kouyate claims Arsenal have made enquiries over his services in recent months and admitted he would jump at the chance of moving to the Emirates, according to the Express.

The 23-year-old has spent almost five years with Anderlecht since joining from Brussels in 2008 and after a slow start to his career at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium, he’s now regarded as a first team regular and is closing in on 100 appearances for the Belgian outfit.

The Express claims that Arsenal have been keeping tabs on the £5m-rated defender this season while mega-rich French side Paris Saint-Germain are also understood to be interested.

However, the player himself has opened the door to a move to the Emirates after revealing the club have been in contact over him recently and he’d love to move to north London:

“I am happy here but if Arsenal called me to go to London I would have no doubt about going,”

“I hear they have asked for some information on me from the last few months.” Kouyate is quoted as saying in the Express

Kouyate is a versatile defensive minded player who predominantly plays at centre-back but is also capable of playing in the defensive midfield role, so he would provide Arsene Wenger with plenty of options if he was to make the move to north London this summer.

At 6 foot 4 inches, he’d certainly provide us with a powerful presence in the team – something that many feel we lack –  but I’m not convinced he’s quite ready to demand a regular first team place at Arsenal just yet. He might be a useful squad player, but will he be good enough to turn us into a trophy-challenging side once again? I have by doubts.
