Arsenal Transfer News: Toulalan & Zuniga

By on April 18, 2013

Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal face stiff competition for Jeremy Toulalan and are lining up a bid for Juan Camillo Zuniga.

Toulalan in demand

First up and the Express are reporting that Arsenal face stiff competition from Atletico Madrid for the signing of Malaga midfielder Jeremy Toulalan this summer. The Frenchman has been excellent at the heart of Malaga’s midfield this season but it seems he may be the latest player to be sold as the cash-strapped La Liga outfit try to balance their books at the end of the season.

We’ve already taken advantage Malaga’s financial situation with the signings of Santi Cazorla and Nacho Monreal in recent transfer windows and it appears we’re lining up a third raid with the Express claiming boss Arsene Wenger has identified Toulalan as a potential target as he looks to add to his midfield options ahead of next season.

However, according to the players agent, Mickael Manuello, we’ll face stiff competition from Atletico Madrid for the 29-year-old’s signature:

“Atletico Madrid are putting a lot of pressure on Jeremy.

“But it is also true that he has other concrete options.” Manuello is quoted as saying by the Express.

Gunners eye Zuniga

Next up and it’s the Express again who’re reporting that Arsenal are planning to submit an offer for Napoli midfielder Juan Camillo Zuniga when the transfer window re-opens this summer.

The Colombian is believed to have just one year remaining on his current deal and the report suggests Wenger is keen to take advantage of the players contract situation and is ready to tempt Napoli into a sale this summer rather than risk losing him for nothing 12 months later.

Zuniga has been a key member of the Napoli team this season, racking up 33 appearances so far, but the 27-year-old could be on his way out of Serie A at the end of the season and his versatility could come in handy at the Emirates with the player able to play in midfield as well as defence.
