Jack Wilshere Facing Further Surgery On Troublesome Ankle Injury

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is facing further surgery on his troublesome ankle injury which would rule him out of England’s double-header with ROI & Brazil

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is facing further surgery on his troublesome ankle injury this summer, according to the Mirror.

After suffering a series of set-backs, Wilshere missed all of last season with an ankle injury and while he made a successful return to action this season, it seems he may be set to go under the knife to clear up a nagging problem.

Although the injury is not thought to be serious and he’s still expected to feature in Arsenal’s final four games of the season, the newspaper claims the 21-year-old is set to have surgery at the end of the season to replace a pin inserted in his ankle during the original operation back in 2011.

A new op would rule him out of England’s two friendlies against the Republic of Ireland at Wembley on the 29th May and the clash in Brazil on June 2nd. The Mirror suggests that even if Jack avoids the surgery, Arsene Wenger will seek talks with England boss Roy Hodgson to persuade him to give the youngster a rest to protect him ahead of next season.

Wilshere was just getting back to his best when he picked up another injury against Tottenham last month – this time to his other ankle – which ruled him out for five weeks. He returned against Norwich but didn’t look 100% fit and he followed that up with another below par display against Everton last Tuesday.

He was subsequently left on the bench for Saturday’s win over Fulham, only coming on for the last 20 minutes, but with 8 days before our clash with Man Utd hopefully Wilshere will have time to get back up to speed.

If this new operation is required to clear up any long-standing issues with his ankle then it’s best to get it out the way. He’ll then have the summer to recover and will be back in time to take part in a full pre-season training programme. There’s no point taking any risks with him as it will only flare up during next season. I’m just thankful he’ll miss England games and not Arsenal games!
