Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski is keen on a move to Manchester United this summer despite interest from the likes of Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Chelsea, according to the Telegraph.

The Polish hitman has become one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe after leading Dortmund to successive Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012, and he’s scored an impressive 70 goals in 131 appearances so far for the German giants since joining the club three years ago.

His impressive form appears to have attracted interest from the Premiership with the Telegraph claiming Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea all want to lure him to England while Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are also thought to be keen on taking him to the Allianz Arena.

However, the newspaper claims the 24-year-old want’s to move to the Premier League with Old Trafford his preferred destination and he’s delayed making a final decision on his future until he knows what United’s intentions are with Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez this summer.

The report claims that United tabled a bid for Lewandowski last summer – which was rejected by Dortmund – but it’s understood the player made it clear he wanted to leave and now Dortmund will look to sell this summer rather than lose him for nothing the follow year and it’s also suggested the German’s would rather sell abroad than to their main domestic rivals.

Sir Alex Ferguson was recently quizzed about his summer plans and hinted he’d have to sell one of his current crop before any new striker would come in. He told the Express.

“Big signings? You are normally talking about forwards but it’s complicated enough as it is with the forwards I’ve got.”

The Scot was then pressed on his interest in Lewandowski, and while he admitted there is an interest there he feels Bayern Munich will be stiff competition. He added:

“Yeah, but Bayern Munich are strong with that too. We just have to wait and see where we are in terms of if we win the league. Then it may be different.”

Uncertainty has surrounded the future of Wayne Rooney in recent weeks while questions have also been asked about whether Javier Hernandez is willing to put up with his bit-part role at United much longer. If either striker was to leave Old Trafford this summer it would open the door for Lewandowski’s arrival.

The former Lech Poznań star is currently on an incredible run that’s seen him score in each of his last 12 league matches however, with just 12 months to run on his current contract it seems his time at the Westfalenstadion could be coming to an end and a move to the Premier League could be on the cards.
