Referee For Chelsea v Swansea Game Announced – Look Who’s Back!

Mark Clattenburg will referee Chelsea’s game against Swansea City next Sunday six months after being cleared of using racist language towards John Obi Mikel.

Mark Clattenburg has been selected to referee Chelsea’s fixture against Swansea City at Stamford Bridge next Sunday.

The game will be the first time Clattenburg has officiated a Chelsea match in six months after being accused of using racist language during a clash with Manchester United back in October 2012.

In that game, Chelsea midfielder John Oki Mikel claimed Clattenburg had used inappropriate language towards him during the 3-2 defeat and after speaking with Mikel and team mate Ramires, the Blues swiftly lodged a complaint to the FA.

Clattenburg was subsequently stood down for over a month as the FA conducted a lengthy investigation but was eventually cleared of all charges and resumed his refereeing duties – but was kept out of the firing line by not officiating any Chelsea games.

However, after six months Clattenburg will now take charge of his first game back at the Bridge when Chelsea entertain Swansea City this coming Sunday.

It makes sense for him to return in a relatively low-key game and it’s sure to go off without issue. The matter has been dealt with and hopefully we’ll be talking about the football match come Monday morning and not seeing anymore unnecessary headlines.
