England U21 Tom-Ince

Tottenham are planning to beat Liverpool to the signing of Blackpool attacker Tom Ince and hope to tie up a £6.5m deal as soon as possible, according to the Mirror.

The 21-year-old has emerged as one of the most promising youngsters in England after a superb campaign for the Seasiders, scoring 18 goals in 43 appearances so far this season.

The Mirror claims Liverpool came close to taking Ince to Anfield during the January transfer window but the deal collapsed after the two clubs couldn’t agree a fee and it seems Spurs are now keen to beat their rivals to the exciting attackers signature this summer.

The report suggests Andre Villas-Boas wants Ince to provide competition for Aaron Lennon at White Hart Lane and the north Londoners are ready to pay £6.5m with chairman Daniel Levy understood to want the deal tied up swiftly as he starts to prepare for next season.

Lennon has struggled with injury this season and Tottenham’s lack of back-up options were exposed during his absence, and with Ince able to play on either wing his versatility is an appealing asset for AVB.

The England under-21 winger was recently named in the Championship team of the year and seems destined for a move to the top flight this summer, but we’ll have to wait and see whether Spurs manage to secure the deal or Liverpool resurrect their interest and bring him back to Anfield.
