Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, the race for Cristiano Ronaldo hots up.

Cristiano Ronaldo Manchester United

Manchester United have been forced into making contact with Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent to make clear their interest in bringing him back to Old Trafford after Paris Saint-Germain tabled an £80m offer for the Real Madrid attacker, according to the Sun.

The report claims United are keen to bring Ronaldo back to England four years after selling him to Madrid for £80m and have been speaking with sponsors Nike about putting together a package for the Portuguese attacker – believed to be worth £65m plus out-of-favour winger Nani.

However, an apparent ‘source’ has told the Sun that the newly-crowned Premier League champions have been pushed into action early after big-spending PSG tabled a ‘substantial offer’ – understood to be £80m – for the 28-year-old and United have now contacted Ronaldo’s agent to make it clear they’d like to bring him back to Old Trafford.

“United are not happy now PSG have made their move with a substantial offer.

“They will not give up, however, and have told Ronaldo’s agent of their intent.” A United source told the Sun

Ronaldo has just two years left to run on his current contract at the Bernabeu and the newspaper suggests he will refuse to sign an extension meaning Madrid may be forced into selling this summer while his value is still at it’s peak and the player is understood to favour a move back to United.
