Chelsea Set To Beat Liverpool To £6m Signing Of Serbian Starlet
Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Chelsea look set to sign Lazar Markovic.
The 19-year-old has emerged as one of the most exciting young prospects in Europe after a string of impressive display’s for Partizan since breaking into the first team in 2011.
His form has not only seen him break into the Serbian senior national team set up but he’s also attracted interest from around Europe with the Sun claiming Chelsea and Liverpool have shown a keen interest in bringing him to the Premier League while Italian giants Inter Milan are also looking to lure him to Serie A.
However, the newspaper suggests that Chelsea defender and international team-mate Branislav Ivanovic, and former Blues boss Avram Grant – who was in charge at Partizan last year – have both played their part in persuading the talented teenager to move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
Markovic likes to play just behind the striker and his 6 goals and 6 assists helped his club land the domestic title last year. While his talent isn’t in doubt, he may well find first team football hard to come by at Stamford Bridge as he will have to compete with the likes of Juan Mata, Oscar and Eden Hazard for a starting berth.
Therefore, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the teenager follow in the footsteps of Romelu Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne and Thibaut Courtois in being loaned out for a season if he does in fact complete a move to Chelsea at the end of the season.
