Arsenal In Advanced Talks For Jovetic As Wenger Eyes Two ‘Marquee’ Striker Signings

By on May 7, 2013

With the summer transfer window set to re-open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal are in advanced talks for Stevan Jovetic.

Arsenal are in advanced talks with Fiorentina over the signing of Stevan Jovetic with Arsene Wenger also looking to add a second marquee striker to his squad this summer, according to Goal.com.

The report claims we opened preliminary talks with the Italians a number of weeks ago and have now stepped up our interest after Fiorentina made it clear they would be willing to cash in on the 23-year-old this summer.

Jovetic has enjoyed an impressive season, scoring 12 goals in 26 appearances so far, and the report suggests Fiorentina value him at between £25-£30m, but we’re expected to go in and open the bidding at around £17m with Wenger understood to be confident of sealing a deal for less than £20m – but any transfer would be dependent on us qualifying for the Champions League next season.

While many Arsenal fans won’t be surprised to here we’re in for Jovetic, it may come as something of a shock to learn that Goal.com are claiming the boss is in fact looking to sign TWO top-drawer forwards at the end of the season and is believed to have his eye on either Robert Lewandowski and Edin Dzeko as well.

Lewandowski has emerged as one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe this season with several big clubs linked with the Polish international, so I personally don’t see us being able to compete with them for his signature.

Dzeko is an interesting one as he’s certainly a talent and has Premier League experience, but if he leaves City he’s going to want regular first team football wherever he goes. If we’re looking to sign two strikers this summer then Dzeko would have some serious competition for a starting spot at the Emirates.

Say we did sign Jovetic and Dzeko, that would mean we’d have those two plus Olivier Giroud vying for a single starting spot as the lone front man – unless Wenger is going to change formation to play two up top. Plus Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott also fancy themselves as central strikers, so suddenly we’d have a variety of options and may struggle to keep them all happy.

I have no idea if Goal.com’s report is accurate or not but personally I think one marquee striker will be enough this summer and we should spend the money elsewhere, such as a defensive midfielder, experienced goalkeeper and a utility defender.

Goal saying that wenger wants two strikers just discredits the jovetic rumour. I dont even think we need two strikers, so wenger definitely doesnt!

Jovetic is good.giroud work in progress. so wenger buy zdeko at least more affordable than lewandoski and he may willing to join us at emirates as a result of regular starting time

Jovetic will be a good addition to the squad but we still need Lewandowski Cavani Reus Capoue Fellaini Hummels Baines and Begovic to win trophies next season. Then sell those flops and deadwools like Arshavin Chamakh Diaby Squillaci Djourou Ramsey Denilson Bentner Santos and Park because the are not good enough.

Can’t sell either Arshavin or Squillachi as I believe both are out of contract in the summer.

As for the others agree we need to ship out, some on a free to simply release wages, but whether the club is prepared to take a major financial hit……

dont think the lewandowski link should be taken seriously bcos wenger is already havin options in those areas…jovetic link is feasible given that his attributes gives another dimension to attack..im simply seperating the rumour from the truth

 seriously think Le prof should rap-up this Jovetic deal before other club beat us τ̲̅ȍ his signature cause he i̶̲̥̅̊s̶̲̥̅̊ ά rare gem. He i̶̲̥̅̊s̶̲̥̅̊ ά hazard kindda player Ãήϑ he definitely gonna add some Quality τ̲̅ȍ our squad. Ãήϑ  think Le prof should go Fø̲̣̣я̅ chicharito instead O̶̷̩̥̊͡Ƒ dzeko Ãήϑ lewandoski cause he’s exactly what we are lacking. Ά player who’s always present i̶̲̥̅̊n̶̲̥̅̊ †ђξ opposition Box.

jovetic and dzeko are completely different players, i see jovetic playing the CAM role or even rivalling walcott as the RAM. i am not sure that dzeko is any better than giroud. but seeing as we are also interested in higuain, remy and villa not to mention fabregas certainly i think wenger is looking at 2 attacking players minimum. perhaps upgrading on rosicky and gervinho as well as replacing arshavin, park, bendtner and chamakh is on the agenda. we definitely cannot start the season with just walcott, giroud, podolski, cazorla, gervinho and chamberlain fighting for 4 places.

Lewandwski will be a serious statement of intent, Arenal must buy him to win things, he is obviously going to be a bit pricey as quality and exceptional playersdon’t come cheap, Kroenke can buy him from his pocket anytime for sure, he just need to stop counting profits for a moment and rebuild the club and will get back all the returns

Surely people realise that Arsenal simply cannot afford these marquee players, I mean really it’s not as if the club has £120m in the bank, a massive uplift in commercial deals and a 30% shareholder who is the richest man in England, is it?

    just think deeply ..
    don’t listening other people
    JOVOTIC is fiorentina’s main striker
he scored 12 goals and he is over 20M
Why don’t we add more 5 million and get higuain or 10 million ( 30 ) and get SUAREZ
and bring back our hero fabrigas
