Juventus Table £18.5m Bid For Arsenal Target Jovetic

With the summer transfer window set to re-open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Juventus bid for Arsenal target Stevan Jovetic.

Juventus have submitted an £18.5m bid for one of Arsenal’s top summer transfer targets, Stevan Jovetic, according to the Express.

With boss Arsene Wenger understood to be keen on signing a new striker this summer, we’ve been linked with a whole host of names in recent weeks. Just days ago, reports in Spain claimed we’d struck an £18m deal to sign Gonzalo Huguain from Real Madrid as long as we qualify for the Champions League while Fiorentina’s Jovetic is also said to be a top target.

However, it seems we’re going to face some stiff competition if we want to sign the 23-year-old Montenegrin striker with the Express reporting that Serie A champions Juventus have made their move to try and lure him to Turin by submitting an £18.5m bid.

The newspaper suggests the approach has been turned down with Fiorentina believed to be holding out for a fee nearer £24m, but Juve are expected to go back in with another offer which may involve including out-of-favour striker Alessandro Matri in the deal.

Offering a ready-made replacement for Jovetic is a good way to sway the deal in our favour. Perhaps we could offer them Bendtner or Chamakh?! On the other hand, Fiorentina may prefer a straight cash deal so they can go and buy a replacement of their own choosing, so he may simply be sold to the highest bidder.

Wenger is understood to have the money this summer to make some big-name signings, especially if we qualify for the Champions League, so it’s shaping up to be an interesting few months. Personally, I’d prefer to see Huguain move to north London than Jovetic as I think he’s proven it at a higher level already and his goal-scoring record is far better, but as long as the boss is strengthening the squad in the right areas, I’ll be happy.

I’d prefer both. Higuain to lead and Jovetic to play behind him. However, if we cannot have him, then I’d be happy to welcome back old boy Carlos Vela. He’s shown great quality and maturity, especially after being given regular play at Sociedad, which he wasn’t able to have during his time at Arsenal.

In fact, in the past two seasons, his numbers have been better than Jovetic’s, scoring an impressive 26 goals and providing 26 assists, playing just behind the lead striker-his natural position. If Wenger buys him back at just 4m as per his buy-back clause, it would represent one of shrewdest businesses in his Arsenal career. If you have watched La Liga in the past two seasons, you would understand what I’m saying.

Yeah Patrick knows what hes talking about with Vela. But I tihnk part of the reason hes been so successful is because hes comfortable in Spain. THeres no doubt hes improved but I think if he returned to us he would struggle simply because he doesnt like England.
As for Jovetic and Higuain. Higuain is a much better option if only one of them was possible. His goalscoring record is much better than Jovetic and hes been playing irregularly this season, and has done very well considering. Our midfield would no doubt compliment either player and Im sure they would both be succesful in their first season simply because Jack, Santi and Arteta are incredible players. Up the Gunners
