Transfer News: Liverpool Eye Double Swoop – Man Utd Face Fight For £25m Midfielder

Latest transfer rumours. Today, Liverpool are linked with a double swoop on Wigan Athletic and Manchester United will face competition to land Nicolas Gaitan.

With the summer transfer window set to re-open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Liverpool are linked with a double swoop on Wigan and Manchester United will face competition to land Nicolas Gaitan.

Reds eye double swoop

First up and the Express are reporting that Liverpool are lining up a double swoop for Callum McManaman and James McArthur following Wigan Athletic’s relegation to the Championship.

The Latics demotion from the top flight was confirmed on Tuesday with a 4-1 defeat to Arsenal and it seems Brendan Rodgers is already eyeing moves for two of Roberto Martinez’s star players.

The report suggests the Reds boss is keen on luring both McManaman and McArthur to Anfield this summer and was in the stands at the Emirates in midweek to make a personal check on the duo ahead of a summer move.

However, any potential deal for McManaman has been complicated after the winger was ruled out for 3 months with an ankle injury picked up during Tuesday’s defeat to the Gunners.

Gaitan race hots up

Next up and the Express again are reporting that Manchester United will have to fend off competition from Bayer Leverkusen for long-term target Nicolas Gaitan.

The newspaper claims that United have held a long-standing interest in the talented Benfica midfielder and have had him watched on several occasions this season as the Portuguese outfit reached the Europa League final and battle with Porto for their domestic title.

With Paul Scholes retiring, continued doubts over the long-term fitness of Darren Fletcher and Anderson and Nani tipped for moves, it’s likely the champions will look to strengthen their midfield options this summer and Gaitan would be an excellent addition.

However, the Express suggest United will face stiff competition for the £25m-rated ace with Bayer Leverkusen understood to have turned their attention to Gaitan as a potential replacement for Andre Schurrle after appearing to lose out on Chelsea’s Kevin de Bruyne to Borussia Dortmund.
