Arsenal beat Newcastle United 1-0 at St James Park to secure a top four finish at the expense of north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
It was a nervy afternoon in the north east but Laurent Koscielny stepped up to make himself a hero, volleying home a superb goal in the 52nd minute to win it for the Gunners. Theo Walcott had the chance to settle it late on but hit the post when clean through but Arsene Wenger’s men held on to clinch a vital three points to make Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Sunderland irrelevant.
