Arsenal & Liverpool On Alert As Boss Admits Target Could Be Sold

Arsenal and Liverpool have been put on alert after Swansea boss Michael Laudrup admitted Ashley Williams could be sold this summer to help raise transfer funds

With the summer transfer window set to re-open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Michael Laudrup admits Ashley Williams could be sold this summer.

Ashley Williams

Arsenal and Liverpool have been put on alert after Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup admitted defender Ashley Williams could be sold this summer to help raise transfer funds, according to the Express.

Williams was in superb form at the heart of Swansea’s defence last season, captaining the side to a 9th place finish in the Premier League and he also lead the Welsh club to a League Cup triumph at Wembley.

However, the Express claim the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool have been alerted to his impressive form and will try and lure the 29-year-old away from the Liberty Stadium this summer, and worryingly for Swansea fans boss Laudrup has admitted he may be forced to sell his skipper in order to raise some much-needed transfer funds.

When asked about cashing in on Williams, Laudrup said:

“There has been a lot of talk and let’s see what happens. He extended his contract not so long ago, like I did. Maybe we have to accept one player will go, but not any more.”

“We need some players and we have to strengthen our squad to compete and try to consolidate the team,”

“There is a lot of work to do this summer. One thing is to find them and another to then go and sign them.

“We have to strengthen to consolidate in mid-table because a lot of the teams below us will spend more money. Teams like Newcastle and West Ham – who are buying Andy Carroll.

“Those sums are way above what we are paying so we have to do things in different ways.” Luadrup is quoted as saying in the Express.

The report suggests Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is ready to tempt the Swans with an opening bid of £8m but Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is also keen on being reunited with his former captain after working with him during his time in Wales.

With Swansea set to play in the Europa League next season Laudrup is going to have to add to his squad to be able to cope with all the extra games and it seems he may be prepared to sacrifice one of his star men in order to raise some extra transfer funds. But will it be Williams and will he end up at Arsenal or Liverpool? Only time will tell…
