Spurs Pull Off Major Coup After Beating Arsenal To £15m Double Deal

By on July 1, 2013

With the summer transfer window set to open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, have Tottenham pulled off a major double coup?

Alen Halilovic

Tottenham look to have pulled off a major double coup after reaching an agreement with Dinamo Zagreb to sign highly-rated youngsters Tin Jedvaj and Alen Halilovic, according to the Mirror.

The 17-year-old duo are touted as two of Europe’s most promising young talents and the Mirror claim the likes of Arsenal and Real Madrid have been keeping track of their progress in recent months and reports last week suggested Arsene Wenger was ready to table a £6m bid for Jedvaj this summer.

However, it appears Tottenham have beaten off competition from their fierce north London rivals with the newspaper citing reports emanating from Croatia that suggest a £15m deal has been agreed with Dinamo for the pair.

The deal is understood to include several performance-related add ons and it would also see the players remain on loan with the Croatian champions before linking up with their new team at White Hart Lane when they turn 18. For  Jedvaj that would see him move to Spurs in January while Halilovic would arrive next summer.

Halilovic is an attacking midfielder who’s been compared to compatriot Luka Modric and he’s already played in the Champions League as well as make his debut for the Croatian senior national team, despite his young age.

Dinamo president Mirko Barisic claims the youngster is better than Modric was at the same age and has tipped Halilovic to go on to become one of the best players in the world:

“A lot of people have compared him to Luka Modric, but he’s better than Luka was at this age.

“Everyone at the club thinks he has even more potential and that he will become one of the best players in the world.” Barisic is quoted as saying by the Mirror.

Jedvaj is a powerful centre-back who also played for Dinamo in the Champions League last season and has represented his country at youth level, but is yet to earn his first senior cap.

If Tottenham can complete this double deal it would represent a major coup for the north Londoners and be a real statement of intent from the club that they can compete with Europe’s top clubs for the best young talent around. However, until it’s up on Tottenham’s official website, anything can still happen.

Seeing as I wasn’t aware of any Arsenal interest can’t say I’m bothered at being beaten to them by the spuds.

There are plenty of experienced top players out there that Wenger will miss because of his miserly attitude, youngsters really aren’t any issue.

oh no we’ve been pipped to another 5 year project player x2.

They’re not even going to play with the spuds for over a year anyway, and this is the first i’ve heard of Arsenal’s interest.

All in all i’m not worried about this ‘coup’

Wenger will not even a player, the board are all noise makers, we have plenty money to spend, nobody is fearing arsenal, and with arsen they club cannot have player who his value will be up to £60m, they have a range of 12 to 14m pounds

Please…if Wenger wanted them he could’ve had them just like that. There’s no one better at developing young players in the premiership and perhaps even the world. Also, where’d this website hear that arsenal were interested? Lazy journalism on this lame site.
