Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is open to the idea of joining another Premier League team and has instructed his agent to ascertain the strength of Arsenal’s interest after a formal enquiry from the Gunners, according to the Times.

Fresh quotes from the Uruguayan circulated on Tuesday after he did a radio interview in his homeland which have only served to increase speculation that he’s agitating for a move away from Anfield this summer.

Until now, it’s been widely expected that the 26-year-old wanted out of England after previously complaining about the rough treatment he’s received from the FA and British media during his time here.

However, reports last week suggested Arsene Wenger had tabled a £30m opening offer for Suarez while reports on Monday claimed that Chelsea were lining-up a £40m bid of their own, and when asked about interest from north London during an interview with Uruguayan radio station Sport 890 the striker surprisingly refused to rule out a move to the Emirates and instead said it was good that English clubs still wanted him.

The controversial hitman went on to claim that two or three clubs were interested in him and while he’s preparing to return to Liverpool for pre-season training on July 21st, a phone call could change his plans.

“One has to value that despite everything that’s happened one is still in the market… that clubs still value players for what they can do on the field,” he said about Arsenal’s bid.

“That makes me think that I can come back and do things well over there.

“They (the press) have given it to me in England but, like we say, I’ve given them stuff to eat because if I hadn’t done anything then probably they wouldn’t have been as bad.

“But football is like that and you have to be accustomed to all that and it’s good that the English clubs still want me.”

“There are two or three clubs who I think are willing and the club knows that.

“My agent is in charge, he knows what I want.

“I have to present myself on July 21 to Liverpool for their tour of Australia but no one knows what could happen.

“I’ve already said what I have to say and initially I have to be there on the 21 but a maybe a phone call one day can change all your plans.” Suarez is quoted as saying by Football365

The Times claim that Suarez has now instructed his agent, Pere Guardiola, to ascertain the strength of Arsenal’s interest which, if true, is a clear indication that the striker is giving serious thought to joining another Premier League team.

The BBC also reported yesterday that Guardiola had separate meetings with both Brendan Rodgers and Ian Ayre on Monday where he reiterated his clients desire to join a club playing in the Champions League. There was no suggestion that the striker had demanded a move abroad, just that he wanted Champions League football. Something that both Arsenal and Chelsea could offer him.

Liverpool will no doubt be desperate to sell their star man abroad rather than to a Premier League rival but as we’ve seen in the past, if a player wants a move badly enough and the buying club are willing to pay top money, anything can happen. Fernando Torres joining Chelsea is the perfect example of that.

If I was a betting man, the smart money would still be on Suarez joining Real Madrid this summer, but you just never know in football…
