Manchester United are set to hold talks with Russia outfit Anzhi Makhachkala over the sale of unsettled winger Nani, according to the Mirror.

The Portuguese attacker fell out-of-favour last season under Sir Alex Ferguson – making just 10 league appearances -and it seems new boss David Moyes have given him no assurances he’ll be playing on a regular basis next season with the player facing competition from Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia and new signing Wilfried Zaha.

The 26-year-old has not travelled with the rest of the squad that flew out to the Far East and Australia today as part of Unite’d pre-season preparations with injury cited as the reason behind his exclusion, although he may have been left behind in any case in order to resolve his future.

The Mirror claim that big-spending Anzhi are the latest side to show an interest following reports that Roma and Galatasaray were also keen, and the Russian club are expected to seek talks with United over a potential £12m deal.

Former United coach Rene Muelensteen is now part of Guus Hiddink’s staff at Anzhi and the newspaper suggests he’s playing a key role in trying to take Nani to Russia this summer.

The former Sporting Lisbon winger has just one year left on his current contract at Old Trafford and with no sign of an extension being signed, he’s expected to be on the move this summer and it appears a switch to Russia could be on the cards.
