Arsenal are set to increase their offer for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez to £35m after the striker made it clear to the Gunners he would be open to moving to the Emirates Stadium this summer, according to Goal.

Reports last week suggested Arsene Wenger had tabled a £30m opening offer for the Uruguayan hitman which was instantly rebuffed by Liverpool, with the Merseysiders insisting he wasn’t for sale – particularly to a Premier League rival.

The BBC reported that Suarez’s agent, Pere Guardiola, had separate meetings with both Brendan Rodgers and Ian Ayre on Monday where he reiterated his clients desire to join a club playing in the Champions League. There was no suggestion that the striker had demanded a move abroad, just that he wanted Champions League football. Something that Arsenal could offer him.

Suarez then did an interview in his homeland on Tuesday where he made it clear he was agitating for a move away from Anfield but interestingly he refused to rule out the possibility of staying in England when he was quizzed about the reported interest from the Gunners.

Goal now claims Suarez’s representatives have made it clear to the north Londoners that the striker would be open to a move to the Emirates this summer if they can strike a deal with Liverpool, and this revelation has prompted Wenger  to go back in with a fresh £35m offer to further test the Reds resolve.

It’s still highly unlikely Liverpool will entertain an offer of that amount from a domestic rival, but it would be another statement of intent from Arsenal that they mean business and that their interest in Suarez is genuine.

The Gunners appear to have made the 26-year-old their No.1 striking target after cooling their interest in Gonzalo Higuain following weeks of unsuccessful negotiations with Real Madrid.
