Benfica Ezequiel Garay

With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest Manchester United transfer rumours. Today, a deal is understood to be in place for Ezequiel Garay while David Moyes targets Antonio Candreva.

Garay deal

First up and the Express are reporting that Manchester United have reached an agreement with Benfica to sign defender Ezequiel Garay for £17.2m.

New boss David Moyes is expected to add to his defensive options this summer, particularly following a fresh injury to Nemanja Vidic which has ruled him out of the clubs pre-season tour and the long-term fitness of the Serbian is a real cause for concern.

The Express claim Garay has been on United’s radar for some time and the 26-year-old is believed to have been in Manchester house-hunting after the champions reached a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Benfica to sign the centre-back for £17.2m.

The Argentinean international has been a rock at the back since moving to Benfica from Real Madrid in 2011 and helped guide his side to the final of the Europa League last season, as well as push Porto all the way in the Portuguese Liga.

Moyes eyes Candreva

Sticking with the Express, and they are also reporting that David Moyes has switched his attention to Italy midfielder Antonio Candreva after missing out on the signing of Thiago Alcantara.

United have been battling with Bayern Munich for the signature of the Spanish starlet in recent weeks but it appears the German giants have won the race, forcing Moyes into looking at alternative targets.

The Express suggest the champions are now interested in signing Lazio midfielder Candreva after he caught the eye with some excellent displays for Italy at the Confederations Cup last month.

However, the report also claims United could face stiff competition from Man City, Tottenham and Napoli – who are all also believed to be interested in the 26-year-old attacking midfielder.
