Transfer News: Liverpool In Talks Over £20m Brazilian | Spurs Eye Argentinean Winger

By on July 17, 2013

With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Liverpool have opened talks over Brazilian attacker Bernard and Spurs are linked with a move for Benfica ace Eduardo Salvio.

Liverpool in talks for Bernard

First up and the Telegraph are reporting that Liverpool are in talks with Atletico Mineiro over the potential signing of attacker Bernard.

The 20-year-old Brazilian international has attracted interest from Europe after some eye-catching displays at this summers Confederations Cup and the Telegraph claim he has a £20m buy-out clause in his current contract.

The report suggests the Reds are keen to get negotiations under way in fear of being gazumped again by clubs who can offer Champions League football, as was the case with Henrikh Mkhitaryan who opted for a switch to Borussia Dortmund over Anfield two weeks ago.

Bernard is a versatile attacker who can play on the wings as well as behind the striker so he would provide Brendan Rodgers with plenty of option in attack if he was to make the move to Merseyside. However, a deal is not thought to be close at this point.

Spurs eye Salvio

Next up and talkSPORT are reporting that Tottenham have joined Manchester City in the race to sign Benfica winger Eduardo Salvio.

The Argentinean international has rejuvenated his career in Portugal after a failed stint at Atletico Madrid between 2010 and 2012. He initially impressed on loan with Benfica before making the move permanent in the summer of 2012 and has gone on to become a key member of Jorge Jesus’ starting eleven.

talkSPORT claim both Spurs and City have shown an interest in luring him the England this summer and while he’s understood to have a £52m buy-out clause in his contract, the 23-year-old could be snapped up for just £15m.

Spurs are yet to add to their attacking options this summer while Manuel Pellagrini has already signed a winger in the form of Jesus Navas, so it will be interesting to see either side decide to make a formal move for Salvio this summer.

I think more good and better players above average performance should be purchase by lfc to reduce suarez’s intent of wanting champions league football . With this lfc will get top 4 qualification.

The fact that there’s a sun newspaper print at the top of the article is enough to make me not believe a word you say.

Then you say we was gazumped but the truth of the matter is, we didn’t have a bid accepted because we didn’t offer the price that Dortmund did. He did not choose them over us because we didn’t even get the chance to speak to him.

That makes me wonder the credibility of the article.

I do nt believe ds post bcos alot of transfer saga had been updated on liverpool site wch does nt meet d targetd player. If u like sign him, if u dnt like let him go,our effort and swapng in we be judge @ d end of season. We neida fund our selve in top four or @ bottom of table. So,both manager and owners of d club should stop deceivng us enough is enough.

Let Suarez go and use the money to bring in two or three classy players like Erickson, Bernard and a defender. That wil give us an advantage to challenge for top 4 and eventually win the league. YNWA

Can I just point out to those using the term ‘world class player’ if you are talking about Bernard then that is a massive over estimation. Firstly only proven in Brazil and not a regular for the national first 11. On the bench yes but not a starter. I think 20m would be a massive risk but Liverpool do like paying over inflated prices on Downings and Hendersons

Coutinho isn’t even on Brazils bench.. And his impact has been ridiculous at LFC. It’s not always about how proven the player is, it’s if he has the right mentality and skillset to be effective. I for one am beginning to have some faith in Liverpools new scouting system so if we do go for him, there is a good chance he will be successful. What I don’t have faith in however is Liverpools ability to close deals!

If the player can fit our style, let BR act faster to get him before the preseason end. I love lfc.

I like him a Lot. (Bernard) but he is only 5ft 5″ tall. And not all that well built/muscular. I just don’t know how he’ll cope with the physicality of our premier league…
    What do you guys think???
(PS Coutinho is 5ft 7.5″ tall)

I am not hoping we must sign him a.s.a.p and a player like Deame of Villa to give midfield more atlatism and cover for defence and play Stevie G in a more advance role.which at time they can change around.a winger on the right is also needed.go for title Brendan R.

I think no need of lfc insisting in kepn suarez since he made his mind dat he want 2 go,if lfc wil ask 4 ma opinion.let cash suarez of notin less than 55million and use the money in signing.benard.burak and a defender
