United Submit Offer For £30m-Rated Brazilian But Chelsea Also Interested

The agent of Marquinhos claims Man Utd have tabled an offer for the Roma defender but Chelsea are also understood to be keeping a close eye on his situation.

With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, interest mounts in Roma’s Marquinhos.

The agent of Marquinhos claims that Manchester United are among three clubs who’ve tabled offers for the Roma defender but Chelsea are also understood to be keeping a close eye on his situation, according to reports today.

The 19-year-old centre-back as been in outstanding form in Italy over the past 12 months after joining from Corinthians last summer and he appears to be attracting interest from some of Europe’s top clubs.

Marquinhos’ agent Roberto Calenda has revealed that Premier League champions Manchester United, French champions Paris Saint Germain and Spanish champions Barcelona have all submitted offers for the talented defender this summer and Roma are contemplating cashing in.

“Roma has told us that there is the possibility of a sale, and we’ll respect the decision they take.

“There are offers from PSG, Barcelona and Manchester United, and it’s possible the club accepts one of those.” Calenda is quoted as saying in the Daily Star.

While the precise figures offered have not been divulged, the Star claim that Roma are demanding a fee in the region of £30m for Marquinhos and as well as United, PSG and Barca, Chelsea are also understood to be tracking the Brazilian starlet but they are yet to table a formal bid.

United could be on the look-out for a new centre-back due to concerns over the long-term fitness of Nemanja Vidic, with the Serbian being ruled out of their pre-season tour with another injury, while Rio Ferdinand is also coming to the end of his illustrious career.

The Blues are also believed to be keen to find a long-term replacement for captain John Terry, and the Premier League duo could do a lot worse than looking to the hugely talented Marquinhos, but it seems the pair will face stiff competition from abroad.

Roma paved the way for the youngsters exit when they completed the signing Moroccan defender Medhi Benatia from Udinese last week.
