Manchester United are ready to table a sensational offer for Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric, according to the Express.

The Croatian playmaker has struggled to settle in Spain following his big-money move from Tottenham Hotspur last summer and he was even voted as the worst signing of the season by readers of Marca newspaper.

Reports on Tuesday claimed United had submitted a £26m offer for Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas but the midfielder is understood to favour staying at the Nou Camp, with boss Tito Vilanova confirming the 26-year-old doesn’t want to leave this summer.

This appears to have lead Moyes into looking at other targets and after missing out on Thiago Alcantara and Kevin Strootman, and with Fabregas seemingly staying at Barca, the Express are one of several media outlets who’re suggesting the Scot is now ready to launch a move to try and lure Modric back to the Premier League.

United’s chief executive Ed Woodward flew back to the UK early from the clubs pre-season tour of Australia to carry out urgent transfer business, and the media have been speculating over what deal he’s working on every since, and it appears Modric is the latest name to be put forward.

The Croatian international is well known to the Premiership, particularly Tottenham fans after he spent four very successful seasons at White Hart Lane. Modric found regular first team football hard to come by last season and with new Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti bringing in Asier Illarramendi from Real Sociedad, competition for places in the midfield is stronger than ever, so a move this summer could be the boost he needs ahead of next years World Cup.

Surely Modric would only leave his dream team, Real Madrid, to play for his other dream team, Chelsea.

HA Its starting to look like United are loosing their touch. Putting stories in the press about going for Bale for 60m Modric for 20m, you will be Spurs in disguise. I think its all a load of shouting and hollering by United to cover the real deal……Rooney to Chelsea. It must be so embarrassing for united to loose Red nose and Rooney. Sooo shout a load of rubbish to try to cover it up. Face it…. with red nose gone, united are about to implode. Lets see how many prawn sandwich fans suddenly discover the blue side of town!

I think this comment is a little more a rant fom someone who can’t accept that his team will never be a top four team… At the nd of the day, you’re only Tottenham!!!!

NEW Story…obviously true ….United offer Madrid a used hanky for Ronaldo…a pair of old underpants to Spurs for Bale (Spurs have agreed to throw in Loris as a make weight) and a pair of soiled socks to Madrid for Modders. Rooney has decided to stay and fight for his place at united.

You have as much chance as the above being true as I have of getting into BARCAs stating 11.
