Arsenal ‘Confident’ Of Landing Luis Suarez After Club Sanction Fresh £40m Bid

By on July 19, 2013

With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, more on Arsenal’s pursuit of Luis Suarez.

Luis Suarez Liverpool

Arsene Wenger has been given the go-ahead to launch a £40m offer for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez and is confident the striker will swap Anfield for the Emirates this summer, according to the Mirror.

The report claims the Gunners have already had one bid – believed to be a package worth up to £35m – rejected by the Merseysiders, who maintain their star man is not for sale.

However, it appears Liverpool’s stance will not deter Arsenal and the Mirror claim the clubs hierarchy have backed boss Arsene Wenger by sanctioning a new and improved £40m bid. It’s understood the Frenchman has a transfer kitty of around £70m to spend this summer and the clubs money-men appears happy for him spent a large proportion of that on Suarez.

What a £40m bid will mean remains unclear. The newspaper suggests that Suarez’s agent, Pere Guardiola, believes the Uruguayan has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave if that figure is met. However, Liverpool are adamant that it simply means they have to inform the striker of the offer but are under no obligation to sell for that price.

Brendan Rodgers reiterated the clubs desire to keep hold of Suarez at a press conference on Thursday. The 26-year-old is due to link-up with the rest of the Liverpool squad on Monday and Rodgers said he expects the player to stay “unless something drastic happens”.

“Luis Suarez is a wonderful player and he is still very much a Liverpool player.

“He is a very important member of this squad and I am looking forward to working with him again this season.

“There has been lots of speculation about Luis moving to another club but, as I said, he is very much a Liverpool player.

“We had an offer that was nowhere near what we value him at. He’s one of the top strikers in the world.

“Of course he wants to work and play at the top level. But unless something drastic happens, he will be staying here.

“He has got three years left on his contract. We are looking forward to him helping us get into the Champions League spots.” Rodgers is quoted as saying by the Mirror.

So the Luis Suarez transfer saga looks like it could be about to heat up. With the player due to meet up with the Liverpool squad on Monday and talk of a fresh bid from Arsenal, this weekend could prove pivotal. It certainly sounds like this apparent ‘clause’ could be a potential sticking point in any deal, but a £40m bid from Arsenal could answer a few questions.

Roger’s is clearly selling. These are not the words of someone who is having none of it. He is trying to get a high price by publically talking it up. But it stems from weakness – Suarez wants to go and Rogers will sell. Arsenal have to be quick to march the price up while others plans are less concrete – notably Real’s but also Napoli’s. We are thelast few left in the dance and there are not enough strikers to go around.

No coincidence that Ayre and BR have sync’d with their sound bytes. All part of the poker face game player overture to the eventual sale designed with the express purpose of ensuring the maximum return possible

They are hardly likely to say, “yup albeit he’s a great player, he’s also a bit if a handful to manage and a bit of a crew wrecker, so please folks, take him off our hands asap”

Based on nothing but observation and my own opinion, I do believe they want him gone but would prefer not to sell to PL competition. Therefore the asking will be higher for PL teams. Do believe they have other deals which are contingent on maximising the profit from selling LS, and there will come a point at which they will listen to offers in order to facilitate these transactions. If it gets to that point, then their hands could well be forced, and I reckon Real know this and will play a better game and we will ultimately suffer. Could be wrong, would live to be wrong, but we haven’t exactly shown huge guile in the transfer market recently…. But I do reckon ‘pool will be aware of this and if ARsenal come up with a decent enough price (40m straight, no burn part and contingent phased payment cycle) then they could steal a lead.

On another note,55M for Cavani is irrelevant. Each transaction has its own ecosystem of variables which drive the price, not least of which is “the price the prospective buyer/market is willing to pay is the price at which you have to value your merchandise”. You could use the property market as a good analogy.

If Suarez wants away there’s not a lot Rogers can do about it. He’ll have to pay huges wages to a player whose heart is somewhere else. Better take the money and get someone who wants to play for Liverpool.

truly we have good playrs but not enouph to win EPL and CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
So we have to to harly to get our targets
just look higuain was around 25 and now he is over 35
if i was arsenal maneger i like to bring our clab only 3 world class payers + julio cesser and they are:-
    1; luiz suarez 40
    2; cesc fabrigas
3; matts hummels 25-30 :- instead of falleini and ashley willams
coz hummels is better then willams in defender, aslo as i bleve he is better then falleini un divensive midfielder coz he is deep lying play maker and he is calm he has experiance chambions league he now how to win
so instead of spending falleini 23 ashley 10 = 33 bring one world class player who can play cb and dcm and also winner and play maker
i am sure if we bring him we don’t miss song more

I still can’t get my head round why Wenger is breaking the bank to make Suarez his first marquee signing! Yes, he’s a talented striker but he comes with so much baggage, do Arsenal need the controversy he brings with him??!! I would rather see Wenger break the bank for Higuain any day of the week!
