Chelsea are lining-up an improved £24m offer for Wayne Rooney but Manchester United are adamant the striker wont be sold even if he hands in a transfer request, according to the Mirror.

Rooney’s future has been cast into doubt after he expressed his disillusionment at Old Trafford, revealing that he’s been left “angry and confused” at David Moyes comments suggesting he was now considered as back-up to Robin van Persie.

Jose Mourinho has been public with his admiration for the 27-year-old and the Blues confirmed earlier this week that they had seen an opening offer, believed to be in the region of £20m, rejected by the champions for their unsettled striker.

The Mirror now claim that while Chelsea are set to table a new and improved £24m offer, United are determined to hang on to Rooney and will resist all attempts to lure him away from Old Trafford, even if the player hands in a transfer request.

The newspaper suggests the two clubs have held talks and agreed that no player from either side would publicly discuss Rooney’s future, while Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has banned any questions regarding the striker from his press conferences.

Rooney is currently back in Manchester doing his rehabilitation after picking up a hamstring injury that forced him to fly back early from the clubs pre-season tour and it was initially feared he’d be out for four weeks. But he’s now doing light training and could be back for a friendly in Sweden on August 6, if he’s still a United player at that point.

why is united rejectin the deal if they no longer value him as first frontman. I thing Rooney should come to the bridge if he doesn’t want to loose form and be dropped out of the English squad come 2014 in Brazil. The blues for ever.

Chelsea should stink to what they have.
Rooney played in Europe 2012 when Torres became the highest goal scorer, Cavani, Neymar Hulk, Chicarito and Suarez all played in Confederation Cup when Torres became highest goal scorer.
Torres to my opinion is a world class striker.
Rooney is a striker that has not score upto 30 goal in his best season back in 2010.
Moreover he was not there in Chelsea when they lift the Champions League and the Europa cup.
So why stressing the clubs name in such saga.
Mou pls, bring out the best in Torres and reap more trophies.

If they dont lyk 2 sell Rooney 2 Chesy, its better 2 leave him, and encourage and giving confidence our strikers like Torres,Lukaku, and BA.There is no need for extravagance while we have potential strikers.

Moyes, pls, let dis young man go, @least u prefer RVP to him. A player can move to where he wants when due, as long as he is not bridging d contract. PLS MOYES, LET ROONEY GO TO WHHERE HE WANT.
