Spurs Chairman Sanctions £18m Bid For 30-Goal Hitman But Liverpool Also Keen

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has sanctioned an £18m bid for Valencia striker Roberto Soldado but the north Londoners could yet face competition from Liverpool

With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, more on the future of Roberto Soldado.

Roberto-Soldado

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has sanctioned an £18m bid for Valencia striker Roberto Soldado according to the Daily Mail, but the north Londoners could yet face competition from Liverpool for his signature.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is understood to be keen on strengthening his attacking options this summer as he tries to build a squad capable of qualifying for the Champions League next season and it seems he’s got his eye on Spanish hot-shot Soldado.

The Mail claim chairman Levy is ready to show the clubs ambition and is prepared to break their transfer record by stumping up £18m to land the Valencia forward, with either Emmanuel Adebayor or Jermain Defoe expected to be sold to make room for the 28-year-old.

However, the Mirror suggest that Liverpool could yet compete for Soldado’s signature with boss Brendan Rodgers eyeing potential replacements for unsettled striker Luis Suarez.

Valencia president Amadeo Salvo has warned the two clubs that they have until the 3rd August to complete a deal or they can forget about trying to sign the Spanish International, and also confirmed they would need to meet the players buy-out clause – which the Mirror claims is £25m.

“If any club wants our striker they are obliged to accept our conditions. And the price on the market has a clause. Until August 3, we accept that a deal may happen and we can negotiate. But after that date, he will not leave us.”  Salvo is quoted as saying by the Mirror

Soldado has just enjoyed an excellent season in Spain, scoring 30 goals  in 46 games, and his form saw him break into the Spanish national team where he featured at this summers Confederations Cup. With career stats of 193 goals in 397 games, he’d certainly bring a potent goal threat with him if he was to make the move to the Premier League this summer but it seems Spurs and Liverpool are going to have to dig deep if they want to sign him before Valencia’s self-imposed deadline.
