With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal face competition for Julio Cesar and Manchester United are linked with a sensational £80m move for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Gunners to miss out on Cesar?

First up and the Express are reporting that Arsenal face fresh competition from Fiorentina for the signature of Brazilian goalkeeper Julio Cesar.

Harry Redknapp is keen to get the stoppers hefty wages off the books at Loftus Road following Queens Park Rangers’ relegation from the Premier League last season and he’s been linked with a whole host of sides throughout Europe.

Arsenal were strongly linked with a move for the 33-year-old earlier in the summer and reports last month claimed they were close to completing a £2m deal before the move appear to go cold. Cesar then held talks with Napoli but the Serie A outfit refused to meet his £90,000-a-week wages demands and Rafa Benitez opted to sign Pepe Reina instead.

Reports on Friday morning suggested Arsene Wenger may renew his interest in the experienced stopper as he looks to bring in competition for Wojeich Szczesny but the Express claim that Fiorentina are now also in the running and are keen to try and lure the former Inter Milan ace back to Italy.

United eye £80m Ronaldo

Next up the Manchester Evening News are reporting that Manchester United are lining up a sensational move to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to the Premier League this summer and are prepared to meet Real Madrid’s £80m asking price.

The report suggests the Reds are aware that fans are anxious following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson and the clubs hierarchy are keen to make a statement of intent in the transfer market, and a stunning move for former ace Ronaldo is now on the agenda after seemingly missing out on Cesc Fabregas.

The M.E.N claim David Moyes is closely monitoring Ronaldo’s situation at the Bernabeu and he hopes that the Spaniard’s would be open to an £80m deal to fund their plans to land Gareth Bale from Tottenham.

Ronaldo has two years left on his contract and the newspaper suggests that big-spending PSG would also be in the race should Madrid decide to cash in, but United are keen to off-set the likely departure of Wayne Rooney by pulling off a stunning coup and luring the Portuguese attacker back to Old Trafford four years after he left for Spain.
