The 4 Players Wenger Should Buy With His £70m Warchest

As Arsenal fans wait for the new bi-money signings they’ve been promised this summer, Gunner333 looks at how Arsene Wenger could have spent his £70m warchest.

As Arsenal fans sit and wait for the new big-money signings they’ve been promised this summer, Arsenal blogger Gunner333 looks at how Arsene Wenger could have spent his reported £70m warchest.

Robert Lewandowski

With Arsene Wenger yet to splash the cash this summer, it’s reported that we still have a budget of around £70million itching to be spent. There are a number of different positions we could fill so here are the players I’d like to see Arsene Wenger go for:

Lars Bender – £20million

Despite the German club claiming they do not want to sell the holding midfielder after rejecting our bid last month, I’m sure we could lure him from Bayer Leverkusen if we really tried, and a £20m bid might do the trick. Bender shows great consistency and has experience of a top quality league which matches the Premier League in terms of physicality. £20m would be a great investment as the 24-year-old German international is still young enough to improve and has the best years ahead of him. He would also fill a problem area that has been needing addressed in recent years.

Ignazio Abate – £10million

A talented full back at his peak with Champions League experience is just what we need to replace the ageing Bacary Sagna, and AC Milan’s Ignazio Abate fits this description perfectly. We were linked with the 26-year-old a few weeks ago and with just one year left on his contract, we might be able to snap him up for around £10m. With his lightning pace and incredible work-rate the Italian right-back would be a great addition to the squad and provide Carl Jenkinson with an experienced player to learn from.

Julio Cesar – £1.5million

We’ve been strongly linked with a move for the 33-year-old this summer with Arsene understood to be keen on bringing in an experienced keeper to challenge Wojciech Szczesny for the No.1 spot. The Brazilian was one of the players of the tournament at this summer Confederations Cup and he would be an excellent addition to the squad and provide real depth in an area that’s been problematic since Jens Lehmann left. We could sign him for as little as £1.5m with QPR keen to get his wages off the books so we could pick ourselves up a bargain.

Robert Lewandowski – £35-£40million

You may be surprised not to see a certain Uruguayan’s name at the bottom of this shopping list however Liverpool have made it clear they are not willing to sell for less than the figure PSG paid for Edinson Cavani [£55million], which is a ludicrous fee if you consider Suarez’s disciplinary record and the baggage he’d bring.

Lewandowski on the other hand would be worth every penny and we’d be signing one of Europe’s hottest properties right now. I realise that the chances of us actually signing him appear slim due to his desire to play for Bayern Munich when his contract expires at the end of next season, but Borussia Dortmund would surely be interested in selling if we put a bid of between £35m-£40m on the table. Their going to lose him for nothing in 12 months time anyway so they’d be crazy not to.

The major stumbling block would obviously be trying to persuade the Polish hitman to join us, but we said we’d be more ambitious this summer, so why not aim for the top!
