Willian: In his Shakhtar days

Manchester United have joined Liverpool and Tottenham in the chase for £30m-rated attacking midfielder Willian, according to the Daily Mail.

New United boss David Moyes has struggled to bring in a marquee signing so far this summer with the former Everton man seemingly keen to add some creativity to his midfield.

After failing in their attempts to sign Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas it appears the champions have now turned their attention to Willian after the player was made available for transfer by his current club Anzhi Makhachkala.

The Mail claim the 25-year-old has already attracted interest from Liverpool and Tottenham but United are ready to enter the bidding with Anzhi understood to be demanding a fee in the region of £30m.

The newspaper suggests that Liverpool are already in advanced negotiations with the Russian outfit and Willian was quoted as saying on Thursday that he’d be open to a move to Anfield this summer, although his main goal is to seal a move to the Premier League.

‘There was the Manchester City bid that was turned down. Now I’m waiting for a new bid to arrive in the next days from a few clubs, like Liverpool. If it’s really Liverpool, then it is surely a great club. I’m hopeful and very calm, just waiting for the best.

‘England is my goal. I like the Premier League very much, I enjoy the English football and certainly, if that happens, it will be very good for me and for my image.’ Willian is quoted as saying in the Mail

Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas is believed to be a long-term admirer of the Brazilian internationals and could make a real push to take him to White Hart Lane if Gareth Bale is sold to Real Madrid, but it will be interesting to see what happens if United make their supposed interest official with a formal bid.

Liverpool appear to be in the driving seat but that could change if the Premier League champions come in, and it would be difficult for the player to turn down a move to Old Trafford.
