[Video Goals] Sunderland 1-3 Arsenal: Ramsey Double Sends Gunners Top

By on September 14, 2013

Arsenal climbed to the top of the table with a hard fought 3-1 win away at Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

Mesut Ozil didn’t take long to find his feet in the Premier League, setting up Olivier Giroud for an early opener and the German set up several other chances as the Gunners threatened to run riot in the first half.

But the score remained at 1-0 at the break and they were made to pay when Laurent Koscielny gave away a penalty early in the second half, Craig Gardner made it 1-1 from the spot. Aaron Ramsey then made it 2-1 with a fine volley before the games huge controversial moment arrived.

Bacary Sagna lost out to Jose Altidore and the American muscled his way through on goal to slot past Szczesny for what looked like the equaliser. However, referee Martin Atkinson had already blown the whistle for a foul by Sagna and only showed the defender a yellow card.

Ramsey went on to add a third as Arsenal secured the three points, but the home side booed the referee from the field at full time following his earlier decision. Watch the action here:
