5 Best Central Midfield Options At Arsenal

By on September 25, 2013

Following the sensational addition of Mesut Ozil on deadline day, Arsene Wenger now has a wealth of central midfield talent at his disposal. Here, Gunner333 looks at the Top 5 best central midfield options.

Mesut-Ozil-Arsenal

Ahead of our tricky trip to the Hawthorns in the league cup, I have carefully decided upon on our best central midfield options. With an array of young and experienced talent in the squad, choosing my ‘Top 5’ wasn’t an easy task!

1. Mesut Ozil

Record signing Mesut Özil has impressed after just three games and the scary thing is that there is a lot more to come. Being Arsenal’s first choice number ten carries a lot of responsibility but his maturity at such a young age should allow him to cope. If he reaches the form he has amounted to at previous clubs, he could arguably be the best midfielder in the Premier League.

2. Jack Wilshere

Unfortunately Jack has suffered from the influx of midfield talent in the last couple of years and he’s now had to drop back to a deeper role to allow the likes of Santi Cazorla, Tomas Rosicky and more recently Mesut Ozil to fill the ‘No.10’ role. He’s a huge talent and seen as the future of the club (if he can stay fit). He simply has to make the list.

3. Santi Cazorla

Considering Santi is the only the Spaniard out of the five [Arteta was next on the list], we have a pretty good midfield. We have many creative players at the club but none more so than Cazorla. He brings goals as well as assists and his figures last season we’re hugely impressive – particularly when you consider it was his debut season in a new league. Unfortunately this campaign has been disrupted by injury but when he’s back it will be a joy to watch him play alongside Ozil.

4. Aaron Ramsey

The in-form Welshman would not have made it here six months ago, but his recent performances have made him almost irreplaceable.  Scoring seven times already this season, he is finally looking like the potential star we once signed from Cardiff City.  The  attacking midfield options face a lot of competition from Ozil and Cazorla though, so his future could be as more of a box-to-box midfielder.

5. Abou Diaby

Perhaps the surprise package among this array of midfield maestros and one of my personal favourites. Abou brings a unique talent to the pitch (when fit), playing with strength and flair. He is capable of  muscling his way through a defence and then sending a delectable ball over the top for the forwards to run on to. When in form, he is almost impossible to beat. We just need to find a way to keep him fit!

When you consider the likes of Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain didn’t make the cut, you soon see just how much quality we have in the centre of the park.
