Man Utd vs Liverpool: Team News & Predicted Starting Line-Ups

Man Utd welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford on Wednesday for the pick of the Capital One Cup 3rd round games. Here’s team news and predicted starting eleven’s.

Manchester United welcome fierce rivals Liverpool to Old Trafford on Wednesday for the pick of the Capital One Cup third round fixtures.

David Moyes has confirmed that star striker Robin van Persie will once again miss out with a groin injury that he picked up in training last week. Javier Hernandez could come in to replace the Dutchman and be handed a rare start up front.

Wayne Rooney is expected to retain his place with Moyes promising to name a strong side to take on the Merseysiders. Rafael is fit again and should start at right back while Jonny Evans could start if he proves his fitness ahead of the game.

Marouane Fellaini is cup-tied but Tom Cleverley, Nani and Shinji Kagawa are all pushing for starts while Ben Amos could get an opportunity to impress in goal with David De Gea likely to be rested.

With Liverpool not competing in European competition this season, boss Brendan Rodgers is expected to have areal go at the domestic cup and should therefore name a strong side at Old Trafford.

The major talking point is whether Luis Suarez will come straight back into the starting eleven after completing his 10-match ban but the Uruguayan is likely to start in support of Daniel Sturridge up front.

Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel were both withdrawn at the weekend so are unlikely to be risked, therefore Kolo Toure may partner Mamadou Sahko in the centre of defence.

Here are the predicted line-ups:
