Although the summer transfer window is officially closed that doesn’t stop clubs working hard behind the scenes to prepare for future signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Today, Man Utd are ready to active Koke’s £16m release clause while Chelsea are linked with Barcelona defender Martin Montoya.

United To Trigger Koke Clause

First up and the Daily Mail are reporting that Manchester United boss David Moyes is ready to activate Koke’s £16m release clause in January.

The report claims that former United supremo Sir Alex Ferguson was keen on the 21-year-old and it seems officials at the club have persuaded Moyes to revive their interest in the exciting young midfielder.

Koke has excelled in Atletico’s impressive team over the last 12 months and he’s also forced his way into the senior Spanish national team set-up – which is not easy considering the talent available to Vincente del Bosque!

The Mail suggest that Moyes has switched his attention to Koke after going cold on a move for Athletic Bilbao’s ace Ander Herrera and is ready to meet the £16m required to activate the players release clause when the transfer window re-opens in January.

However, it’s not going to be easy to lure the youngster to Old Trafford as the player is believed to be settled in Madrid and may take some persuading to up sticks and move to Manchester.

Chelsea Eye Montoya

Next up and Portuguese newspaper Record are one of several media outlets who are reporting that Chelsea have joined the chase for Barcelona defender Martin Montoya.

The 22-year-old predominantly operates at right back but after coming through the youth ranks he’s struggling to force his way into the Catalans first team, with Dani Alves currently occupying his position.

This has led to speculation he could look for a move in search of more regular first team action and Record claim Chelsea have now joined Inter Milan and Bayer Leverkusen in showing a keen interest in the £7m-rated Spaniard.

However, with Branislav Ivanovic and Cesar Azpilicueta already on the books at Stamford Bridge you’d have to question whether Montoya’s chances of a starting berth are any better if he did make the switch to west London.
