Marouane Fellaini has has refused to comment on reported interest from Chelsea but confirmed that Arsenal did make attempts to sign him before he joined Manchester United in the summer, according to Sky Sports News.

The Belgian was strongly linked with a move to both Chelsea and Arsenal during the summer months before eventually sealing a £27.5million move to United on deadline day.

Now Fellaini has spoken out for the first time about the interest shown in him in the summer and while he refused to be drawn on whether Chelsea made an official move for his services, he did confirm that league leaders Arsenal tried to lure him to the Emirates but claims the champions were able to convince him his future lay in the north west.

“I don’t want to tell you everything what happened during the transfer. This was done at the last minute.

“In a transfer window, there is always a list of players, you never know if it’s true or not. But for me, I knew [Moyes] was interested in me.

“Chelsea? No comment. Arsenal? It’s true, they were interested, but Manchester United convinced me to sign for them.” Fellaini is quoted as saying by Sky Sports

The 25-year-old was signed by David Moyes during his time at Everton and it seems the former Standard Liege midfielder was keen to link up with the Scot once again at United. Fellaini also admitted that his time at Old Trafford hasn’t gone according to plan but is confident he will find his best form soon. He added:

“David Moyes has given me confidence,” he said.

“When I was in trouble early at Everton, he helped me and supported me. He did everything for me to become a great player.

“I was criticised, nobody knew who I was. I succeeded because I worked a lot. That’s why I’m playing for Manchester United today.

“[I am not trying to] replace Scholes or Carrick or anyone. I try to play my own game. It is difficult at the moment, but I will succeed.”

It’s certainly been a difficult start to life for Fellaini with United struggling to adapt to life without Sir Alex Ferguson, but the Red Devils will surely click into gear eventually and I’m certain we’ll start to see the best of the former Toffees man.

Whether he’ll be proved right for turning down Arsenal remains to be seen, as the Gunners have made a flying start to the season, but nobody can criticise Fellaini for following Moyes to the Premier League champions.
