Chelsea eased into the quarter finals of the Capital One Cup thanks to goals from Cesar Azpilicueta and Juan Mata.  Here are my player ratings from the game:

Arsenal

Fabianski 6/10

Could have been off his line quicker to claim Jenkinson’s short headed back-pass but could do little to stop Mata’s stunning strike.

Jenkinson 4.5/10

Horrible moment for the youngster as his header fell short and allowed Azpilicueta in to score the crucial opener. Didn’t really recover as he struggled for most of the game.

Vermaelen 6/10

Didn’t do enough to show Wenger he should replace either Koscielny or Mertesacker. And why was he not sent off in the final minute? If it was a foul he had to go.

Koscielny 7.5/10

Arguably Arsenal best player. Made several important interceptions and cleared one off the line to prevent a third goal.

Monreal 7/10

Went close to equalising with a low drive and was always keen to get forward. Did his first team chances no harm.

Ramsey 6/10

Not at his dominant best. Was tidy in possession and tried his luck with a few pot-shots, but nothing came off for him.

Wilshere 7/10

Some bursting runs from midfield, particularly in the first half, and he was Arsenal’s main player going forward.

Rosicky 6/10

Linked up well with Cazorla at times but couldn’t breach the Blues defence.

Cazorla 6.5/10

Not at his creative best but was always eager to get things moving.

Ryo 5/10

He looked a threat early on but faded when Chelsea took the lead. Looked a little lost at times and Arsenal couldn’t use his pace to get behind the Chelsea defence often enough.

Bendtner 4/10

Very disappointing from the Dane. Hardly had a touch of the ball before being replaced to jeers from both sets of supporters.

Subs: Ozil (6), Giroud (6.5), Park (N/A)

Chelsea

Schwarzer 6/10

Not a lot to do other than make a couple of routine saves.

Azpilicueta 7/10

Rewarded for his lung-busting push forward with a fine finish to open the scoring.

Cahill 7/10

Dealt with Bendtner with ease. Giroud proved more of a threat but Cahill and Luiz held things together.

Luiz 7/10

Solid display from the Brazilian.

Bertrand 6.5/10

Given some trouble early on by Ryo’s pace but settled into things and was steady enough.

Mikel 7.5/10

Was a rock in front of the Blues defence to help break up the home sides play.

Essien 7.5/10

Clearly not as fit as he used to be but still a powerful presence in the middle of the park.

De Bruyne 6/10

Worked hard enough but didn’t have any real impact on the game.

Mata 8/10

Stunning goal sealed the win and he worked tirelessly throughout the ninety minutes. This is the Mata Jose wants to see every week.

Willian 7/10

Worked his socks off and was a threat when Chelsea were hitting Arsenal on the break.

Eto’o 7/10

His speculative long pass resulted in the opener and he was always a willing runner into the channels. Went close with a couple of long-range efforts.

Subs: Ramires (7), Ba (7), Kalas (N/A)
