Arsenal missed out on the chance to sign Luis Suarez in the summer because the striker forget he had removed the £40m buy-out clause in his contract, according to the Mirror.

The Gunners angered Liverpool in the summer when they tabled a cheeky £40m plus £1 bid for the Uruguayan on the advice of the player, who went public with his desire to leave Anfield insisting the club had to honor the terms of his contract which he claimed at the time meant they had to sell if any bid over £40m was submitted.

Brendan Rodgers and the clubs hierarchy were adamant no such clause existed and Liverpool rejected Arsenal’s advances and forced Suarez to stay at the club.

Now the Mirror have claimed that Suarez had simply FORGOT that he and his agent, Pere Guardiola, had agreed to remove the £40m buy-out clause when he signed a new deal in the summer of 2012.

It turns out the clause was in the 26-year-old’s initial contract that he signed when he first moved to Liverpool from Ajax in January 2011. The striker was then rewarded with a new deal in the summer of 2012 after an excellent first 18 months at Anfield and the newspaper says it was at that point that Guardiola agreed to remove the get-out figure.

Suarez agitated for a move at the end of last season after Liverpool failed to qualify for the Champions League and it seems it had slipped his mind that he could no longer force a move if a club came in with a bid in excess of £40m, leaving both himself and Arsenal looking foolish as his escape bid ended in failure.

Hahahahahahahaha… Foolish Arsenal, Suarez will stay and even extend his contract because he’s got not much options… I know that the Kop will never forgive after that transfer show of shame… Even if we win the title, the LFC Brand has been tampered by side cockroaches from the Emirates and their biscuit offers…
