Today, Arsene Wenger eyes Switzerland defender Fabian Schar and Liverpool are ready to battle Manchester United for Moussa Dembele.
Wenger eyes Schar
First up and the Mirror are reporting that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keeping a close eye on FC Basel defender Fabian Schar.
The report claims that Wenger has instructed his scouts to monitor the Swiss international this season and has been impressed by what he’s seen so far, with the 21-year-old impressing for both club and country.
Schar has been a stand-out performer for Basel in the Champions League this season and is expected to start for his country at next summers World Cup, but the newspaper suggests that the north Londoners could pick him up for just £5m.
The Gunners have Thomas Vermaelen, Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny already on the books at the Emirates but there is very little back-up behind the experienced trio following the departures of johan Djourou and Sebastian Squillaci in the summer, so it’s no surprise to hear Wenger is looking at another addition.
Liverpool and United eye Dembele
Next up and the Mirror are also reporting that Liverpool have joined Manchester United in chasing Fulham starlet Moussa Dembele.
The report claims that Brendan Rodgers sent a three-man scouting team to watch the teenage striker for the Londoners under-21 game last week, where he continued his fine form with a well-taken brace.
Dembele only joined Fulham from PSG in the summer but has already been earmarked to be fast-tracked to their first team by boss Martin Jol, but it looks like the Cottagers will face a fight to keep hold of the youngster over the long-term.
The Mirror suggest that the 17-year-old has already drawn interest from champions Manchester United and now Liverpool are ready to go head-to-head with their rivals for the French starlet with Rodgers said to be ready to make a move when the transfer window re-opens in January.
