The agent of Nigerian starlet Kelechi Iheanacho claims that Arsenal are the latest club to show an interest in signing the striker, according to the Daily Star.

Iheanacho burst onto the scene with some scintillating displays at the recent Under-17 World Cup where the 17-year-old won the Most Valuable Player award after bagging six goals and seven assists in just seven games.

Nigeria eventually won the competition thanks in large to Iheanacho’s contribution, which included a stunning four-goal haul against Mexico.

It seems his impressive display’s haven’t gone unnoticed at the Emirates Stadium with the strikers agent, Henry Galeano, revealing that Arsenal’s chief scout, Steve Rowley, has been keeping an eye on him and has already spoken to him about the player.

“I can confirm that Arsenal FC’s Steve Rowley, acknowledged Kelechi Iheanacho’s talents early in the World Cup and has said some very nice words about him,”

“We’re ecstatic to have another major club like Arsenal following young Iheanacho. That said, the attention is well deserved. Iheanacho’s performance at the World Cup was indeed remarkable.

“Iheanacho has consistently shown good form and the statistics throughout his career as a Youth player with the Nigerian National Team, are quite impressive. Even during the World Cup qualifications in Morocco, Iheanacho was the second highest goal-scorer.” Galeano is quoted as saying by the Star.

Iheanacho  is currently on the books at The Taye Academy but it surely wont be long before he’s snapped up by one of Europe’s top clubs with Galeano also confirming that the player has several options available to him, but he’d like to see the youngster follow in the footsteps of Kanu and make a name for himself with the Gunners. He continued:

“At present we are considering and evaluating all options. Our goal is to match Iheanacho with a club that fits his profile, and a club that can bring out the very best in him.

“If Arsenal F.C. is an option on the table, we’ll be glad to sit down and consider it. Iheanacho wouldn’t be the first Nigerian making it into the team. The thought of him following in the footsteps of the great Kanu definitely has a nice ring to it,”  Galeano is quoted as saying by the Star.

If Arsenal do end up signing Iheanacho he won’t be the big-money name many Gooners are hoping for but it certainly sounds like he could have an exciting future in the game.
