Although the summer transfer window is officially closed that doesn’t stop clubs working hard behind the scenes to prepare for future signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Today, Liverpool are ready to battle it out with Roma for Adrian Lopez while Tottenham are linked with Brazilian starlet Neilton.

Liverpool want Adrian

First up and talkSPORT are reporting that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is ready to battle AS Roma for Atletico Madrid striker Adrian Lopez.

The forward has fallen out of favour under Atletico boss Diego Simone with both Diego Coast and David Villa ahead of him in the pecking order this season.

talkSPORT claim that Liverpool are showing a serious interest in luring him to the Premier League with Rodgers understood to be weighing up tabling a formal bid when the transfer window open in January.

The Reds have made a promising start to the season and currently sit second in the table, but the Northern Irishman is understood to be keen on adding to his forward options this winter to boost their push for Champions League qualification.

However, the Merseysiders will now face stiff competition from Italy with the report suggesting that Serie A leaders Roma are also eyeing the 25-year-old Spanish international – who has 18 months left on his current contract and is thought to be valued at around £7m by Madrid.

Spurs eye Neilton

Next up and the Daily Mail are reporting that Tottenham want to sign Santos starlet Neilton but will have to fend off competition from Sevilla.

Nielton has emerged as one of the most highly-rated youngsters in Brazil with some hailing him as the ‘New Neymar’.

The 19-year-old is out of contract in the summer and with negotiations over an extension stalling due to the players £20,000-a-week wage demands, the newspaper claims that Sevilla have offered £600,000 to sign him in January.

Tottenham are also understood to be considering an offer of their own and the Mail suggest that Santos are swaying towards putting forward a proposal to Spurs that includes a 10% sell-on clause as payment for the youngster as they know there’s a good chance he could be sold by the north Londoners at a premium price in the future.

However, while speculation intensifies over his future, Neilton has expressed his desire to remain in Brazil with Santos:

‘I want to stay. We are negotiating. I am not involved in the talks, but I intend to stay,’ Neilton is quoted as saying by the Mail
