It’s Not Just Gareth Bale, Spurs Also Miss This Man…

With Spurs still feeling the effects of losing the attacking threat of Gareth Bale, Spurs Blogger looks at another player that left the club in the summer.

Many Tottenham fans review of last summer would not only include the signing of seven international players but more than likely, class it as the summer we sold Gareth Bale. Not only his fantastic ability and explosive form last season, but the Welshman was our match winner. On countless occasions, our team looked clueless as to how to break down an opponent, but Gareth would consistently come up with the goods and we certainly miss that this campaign.

However, from the squad last season, I believe there is another man who left without getting the recognition he truly deserved and someone we also miss more than we might have thoughts we would. Another match winner.

Clint Dempsey was a man who joined as the final signing of the 2012/13 season, for a mere £6 Million from Fulham, which was potentially re-cooped by the number of American football fans who loyally follow their captain. He was regularly played out of position, on the left, but when he drifted inwards, he was constantly fruitful in front of goal, achieving an impressive 12 goals in all competitions during the season, in just 32 appearances, many off the bench as a substitute.

Clint scored some very important goals in that season, and I’m sure Manchester United won’t forget it. The American scored the winning goal in our famous 2-3 win at Old Trafford, whilst also scoring the equaliser in our 1-1 draw with the eventual champions at the Lane.

Clint scored many other important goals, such as the only goal in the 1-0 with Stoke, a goal in our 3-1 win over Manchester City, two goals as we took FC Basel to penalties in the Europa league in a 2-2 draw, a goal in our loss to Leeds in the F.A Cup, another brace against Coventry in the F.A Cup, a goal against Reading in our 3-1 win, our goal in the 2-1 loss to Everton and the winning goal against Southampton.

Dempsey cannot be criticised for the heart and determination that he showed last season for us. Every match he played, he was determined to play for the fans and for the shirt, despite not being the most naturally talented of players.

If we could take his heart, determination and work ethic into Emmanuel Adebayor’s body, then we’d have an incredible player on our hands. His impressive season for us, rewarded him with a $9m move back home to the MLS, where he is worshiped.

What do you think of Dempsey’s contribution last season? Is he missed more than we thought?
