Man City vs Spurs Preview, Team News, Likely Line-Ups, Key Man & Predicted Score

Manchester City play host to Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Here is a preview with team news and predicted line-ups for the game.

Etihad Stadium Man City

Manchester City play host to Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday with both sides looking to close the gap at the top of the league.

City head into the game sitting ninth in the Premier League following a shock 1-0 loss to Sunderland before the international break but can move as high as third with a win tomorrow.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men boast a perfect home record so far this season, winning taking 15 points from five games that seems them score 20 goals and concede just two in the process.

The Civilians are the divisions highest scorers and they will need all of their firepower to breach a Spurs defence that’s conceded just six times so far campaign.

Andre Villas-Boas side also suffered defeat last time out with Loic Remy’s cool finish earning Newcastle a 1-0 win at White Hart Lane, so they will be looking to get back on track and improve upon their current seventh place position.

Goals have been hard to come by for the north Londoners and despite boasting an array of attacking talent in their squad, Spurs have found the net just six times from open play so will need to find their shooting boots soon if they want to maintain any sort of title challenge.

Team News

Manchester City have been dealt a blow with the news that Vincent Kompany is out for a further 10 days with a thigh injury that’s already kept him on the sidelines for several weeks.

Playmaker David Silva is also likely to miss the game with a calf problem that’s seen him miss City’s last two fixtures, but midfielder Fernandinho is available again.

The big decision for Pellegrini is whether to recall Joe Hart again after an impressive display for England in midweek, or stick with Costel Pantilimon who’s kept goal for the last two games.

Spurs will be without playmaker Christian Eriksen after he picked up an ankle injury while away with Denmark and is likely to be out for a month, meaning Lewis Holtby could start in attack.

Andre Villas-Boas has hinted that Emmanuel Adebayor could return to the squad to help solve their goal drought, while Hugo Lloris will be recalled after missing the Newcastle game.

Danny Rose remains out with a toe injury so Jan Vertonghen is expected to start at left-back. Nacer Chadli and Zeki Fryers have returned to training and are back in contention.

Likely Line-Ups

football formations

Key Man

Sergio Aguero: The Argentine striker has been in red-hot form this season and continued his goal-scoring streak with a brace for his country in midweek, so he’ll certainly be the main threat that Spurs have to keep an eye on.

Predicted Score

Man City 2-1 Spurs: City are imperious at home and we think they will just edge Spurs out this weekend.
