North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham are battling it out to try and sign unsettled Paris Saint German forward Ezequil Lavezzi in January, according to the Express.

The Argentinean international has failed to reproduce the kind of form that earned him a £23m move to Paris from Napoli in the summer of 2012 and is now struggling to secure first team football this season.

The 28-year-old is behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani in Laurent Blanc’s pecking order and his lack of playing time has seen him make just a handful of starts, resulting in just 1 goal so far this campaign.

Lavezzi was previously considered as one of the top forward in Europe after an excellent five-year stint in Naples, but his stock is falling and it seems he wants a move in January to not only resurrect his career but also boost his chances of featuring at next summers World Cup.

The Express claim that Arsenal and Tottenham are interested in bringing him to the Premier League but will face stiff competition from the likes of AC Milan and Internazionale – who are believed to be keen on luring him back to Italy.

Despite sitting top of the Premier League, Arsenal have been tipped to bring in another striker this winter to ease the burden on Olivier Giroud, while Tottenham are also thought to be in the market for attacking reinforcements with Andre Villas-Boas’s side scoring just six goals from open play so far this season.

The newspaper report suggests that PSG could be open to cashing in on Lavezzi but would want to recoup the vast majority of the £23m they spent to acquire him 16 months ago, which may prove to be a stumbling block for Arsene Wenger and AVB.

The player is no doubt a huge talent but he’s currently being wasted on the bench at PSG and if he has any desires about securing a place in the highly-competitive Argentina squad for the 2014 World Cup then he needs to be playing and scoring regularly, so a move this winter looks likely.

Whether Arsenal or Spurs will be able to either find an agreement with PSG, or persuade Lavezzi to come to England, remains to be seen but they would get an excellent player if they do manage to pull it off.
