Although the summer transfer window is officially closed that doesn’t stop clubs working hard behind the scenes to prepare for future signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Today, Bayern Munich are linked with a move for Chelsea defender David Luiz and Liverpool could miss out on Martin Montoya.

Chelsea are bracing themselves for interest in David Luiz with the Express claiming that German giants Bayern Munich are set to enter the bidding for the defender this January.

Luiz has fallen out-of-favour under boss Jose Moutrinho with Gary Cahill now seemingly the preferred partner for John Terry at the back. The 26-year-old lost his place after a terrible error against Cardiff City back in October and has spent much of the last six weeks on the subs bench, making just 11 appearances so far this season.

A knee injury has kept him out of the last two games but he’s not expected to displace Cahill or Terry when he does return to fitness next week, and the Express claim Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are ready to offer the Brazilian international an escape route when the transfer window re-opens next month.

Mourinho is unlikely to welcome any interest as the defender could still play an important role in the case of injury or suspension to his first choice pair, but Luiz may decide to try and push for a move as he looks to secure regular first team football during the second half of the season in the run up to the Brazil 2014 World Cup.

Liverpool to miss out on Montoya?

Next up and talkSPORT are reporting that Liverpool could be set to miss out on Barcelona defender Martin Montoya with Inter Milan ready to open talks with the Spanish youngster.

Montoya is out of contract at the end of the season and he’s been linked with a move to a whole host of top European clubs. talkSPORT claim Liverpool are looking to tie up a move next month with Brendan Rodgers hoping to add to his defensive options.

However, their hopes of luring him to Anfield have suffered a set-back with the news that Inter are now ready to make their own swoop with the report suggesting the 22-year-old’s agent, Josep Maria Orobitig, will fly to Italy this week to hold talk over a potential switch to the San Siro.

Montoya is struggling to secure first team football at Barca and may be forced to leave in search of regular action, and it seems Liverpool now have serious competition to sign the Spanish Under-21 star.
