German starlet Max Meyer has snubbed interest from Arsenal and Chelsea to sign a new three-year deal with Schalke, according to the Express.

Meyer has emerged as one of the most highly-rated youngsters in the Bundesliga since breaking into the Schalke first team last season, and has cemented himself as a regular this season – scoring 4 goals in 18 appearances so far.

His impressive form has caught the eye of some of Europe’s top clubs with Arsenal and Chelsea understood to be among those showing an interest, with the Express claiming the London duo were keen on luring him to the Premier League.

The newspaper suggests Jose Mourinho was prepared to splash out £12.5m to take the 18-year-old to Stamford Bridge, while Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was also believed to be keeping tabs on the young attacker.

However, any potential move to England now appears unlikely to happen any time soon with Schalke confirming today that Meyer has committed his long-term future to the club after penning a new three-year deal. Schalke general manager Horst Heldt said:

“It is excellent news for the club,”

“Many professionals in the game have predicted a great career in football for him.

“His development in the past few months has been almost breathtaking.” Heldt is quoted as saying by the Express.

As well as being a Schalke regular, Meyer has also represented Germany at every youth level from Under 15 through to Under 19 level and is tipped to break into the senior set up in the not to distant future, but it seems Arsenal and Chelsea will have to bide their time if they want to bring the attacking midfielder to the Premiership.
