As we approach the opening of the January transfer window there will be a lot of transfer news doing the rounds in the newspapers, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Today, Chelsea are considering a move for Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia while Liverpool are linked with a move for Burnley hotshot Danny Ings.

Chelsea eye Ranocchia

First up and the Mirror are reporting that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has identified Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia as a potential replacement for David Luiz this January.

The report suggests that Luiz could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge when the transfer window re-opens next month after failing to cement himself as a first team regular under Mourinho.

The Portuguese coach is therefore drawing up a list of potential defensive targets and the Mirror claim Ranocchia is under serious consideration.

The 25-year-old joined Inter from Genoa in 2011 and has since broken into the Italian senior national team set-up, winning 12 caps so far. He stands at 6ft 5in, so could form an imposing partnership at the back alongside John Terry if he does make the move to west London.

Liverpool linked with Ings

Next up and the Mirror are also reporting that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is eyeing a bid for Burnley hotshot Danny Ings this January as he looks to add cover for the injured Daniel Sturridge.

Sturridge has been ruled out for up to eight weeks with an ankle injury leaving the Reds short of options in attack and it seems Rodgers may be ready to delve in to the Championship to get himself a new striker with Ings seemingly on his radar.

The newspaper suggests Rodgers was monitoring the 21-year-old before Sturridge’s injury, but the set-back has simply forced is hand and now the Northern Irishman will make his move when the transfer window re-opens next month.

Ings has been in sensational form for Burnley this season, scoring 15 goals in 21 games, with his displays seeing him earn a call-up to the England under-21 team where he’s got 2 goals in 2 appearances.

Burnley are unlikely to sell without a fight though as Ings is key to their promotion hopes, so Liverpool may have to pay over the odds if they want to sign him mid-season.
