Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool are not only battling it out at the top of the league at present but it seems they are also set to clash off the pitch too with the Mirror claiming the pair are interested in signing Hamburg starlet Hakan Calhanoglu.

The 19-year-old has emerged as as one of the most highly-rated youngsters in Germany after breaking into the Hamburg first team this season, with the attacking midfielder now cementing himself as a first team regular.

The Mirror claims that Arsene Wenger and Brendan Rodgers have both sent scouts to run-the-rule over Calhanoglu in recent weeks with representatives believed to be in the stands to watch the teenager score his first goal of the season last weekend.

The newspaper states that the Gunners have already been in touch with Hamburg over the players availability but will now face competition from the Merseysiders, with the Bundesliga outfit likely to sell if they get an offer they feel is too good to turn down.

Hamburg are currently sitting in mid-table and are unlikely to qualify for the Champions League so the clubs hierarchy may take the decision to cash-in on one of their most lucrative young talents.

Calhanoglu is already a senior international with Turkey and impressed while on loan at Karlsruhe last season, here’s a video of what Arsenal and Liverpool fans would be in for if they manage to sign him:
