Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United could all be ready to battle it out to bring Xabi Alonso back to the Premier League after Carlo Ancelotti hinted he could leave Real Madrid next summer, according to the Daily Star.

Alonso is in the final year of his contract at the Bernabeu and is yet to agree terms over an extension leading to speculation he could be set to end his five-year stay in Spain.

A return to England appears to be a distinct possibility with the Star claiming that Chelsea, Man Utd and Liverpool are all lining up to lure the Spanish international back to the Premier League if he does decide he wants a new challenge.

Real boss Carlo Ancelotti has now added fuel to the fire after suggesting that Alonso is no longer the important first team player he once was and gave no indication a new contract will be signed any time soon.

“The club has no further information regarding his renewal.

“But if he signs or not, he is our player until the summer of 2014 and if he is available, he will play.”

“We have other important players and have played half of the season without him and the results have been good.” Ancelotti is quoted as saying by the Star

Manchester United have endured a mixed start to the season and David Moyes could very-well be in the market for another central midfielder in the summer if he fails to land his targets in January, and Alonso would be an excellent addition to the champions squad.

However, the Star suggest that Brendan Rodgers is keen on bringing the 32-year-old back to Anfield while Jose Mourinho is also understood to be interested in reuniting with the pass-master having worked with him during his time at Madrid.

Alonso will be able to discuss a free transfer summer move with interested parties as of January 1st, so it will be interesting to see how this one develops over the coming weeks.
