Mourinho Responds To Rooney And Hazard Reports

Jose Mourinho has responded to reports linking Eden Hazard with a move to PSG and also reports suggesting he’s eyeing up a move for Man Utd’s Wayne Rooney.

With the January transfer window now open for business clubs will be working hard to try and strengthen their squad for the second half of the season, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Jose Mourinho responds to rumours over the future of Eden Hazard and Wayne Rooney.

Eden Hazard Chelsea

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has responded to reports linking winger Eden Hazard with a move to PSG while he also had his say on reports suggesting he’s eyeing up a move for Man Utd’s Wayne Rooney.

Speculation in Friday’s French media claimed that attacker Hazard will ‘certainly’ be joining big-spending Ligue 1 outfit Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season and he’s apparently already told team-mates of his decision.

The Mirror carry quotes from Paris-based newspaper Le Parisien that have been attributed to the Belgian international, where’s he’s believed to have told his Chelsea team-mates:

“I will certainly be joining Paris next summer”

Of course the ‘source’ of this quote goes unnamed, so they can hardly be looked-upon as reliable, but reporters still asked Mourinho about it during his press conference this afternoon.

The Blues boss insisted he has no concerns over the 23-year-old leaving as Chelsea are not interested in selling and even if they did, his value is now ‘crazy’.  Mourinho told Chelseafc.com:

‘I’m not worried because if two years later he is two or three times better than he was when we bought him, his value in the market is a crazy value,’ said Mourinho.

‘On top of that, he’s not a player we are interested in selling. Because of the fact we don’t want to sell and the crazy value he has, I don’t think there’s any chance Eden will go.’

There was also yet more speculation linking Chelsea with a move for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, with the Telegraph reporting that Mourinho is ‘convinced’ he’ll be able to finally land the player next summer.

The Blues boss was quizzed about the report this afternoon and was predictably guarded with his response, refusing to be speak about a player under contract with another Premier League club:

“I don’t want to speak about it,” Mourinho said.

“We play Man United in a few days. I don’t think it’s nice to speak about a Man United player. You have to ask him (Rooney). You have to ask the player. And Man United because Man United has a contract with the player that doesn’t end at the end of the season.” [Source: Guardian]

It’s no surprise that Mourinho didn’t say too much regarding the future of Rooney, but the interesting thing was he didn’t rule out making a move in the summer.

Rooney has just 18 months left on his contract and if he fails to agree an extension over the coming months, he’ll be down to just 12 months at the end of the season, at which point United are going to have to decide; cash in while they can still command a fee or risk losing him for nothing.

Should the champions decide to sell, I wouldn’t be surprised if Chelsea are heading the queue of interested parties battling for his signature.

The west Londoners current crop of front-men are hardly setting the world alight. Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Damba Ba are all struggling to find the net on a regular basis this season so I personally wouldn’t be shocked if they made another move for Rooney in the summer – particularly if he hasn’t signed a new deal at United.
